The Department became the first structural unit within the classical University in the Central Black Soil region, which educates specialists and bachelors in world economy, international relations, and regional studies. Created on the basis of economic and historical departments, the Department of International Relations is a rapidly developing unit of the University.

Interdisciplinary system is an integral part of the educational process. Students have the possibility of studying economic, political and social sciences.

Special focus in the International Relations Department is made on studying foreign languages. All students of the Department study two European languages. The International Relations Department is one of the few in the structure of VSU where students are able to study oriental languages. Partners of the Department are universities and research centers in Europe, America and Asia. Education at the International Relations Department is your first step to knowledge and discovery of a globalizing world.

History of the International Relations Department began in 2002 with the cooperation of the Historical and Economic Departments in specializations International Relations and the World Economy. Since 2003 the International Relations Department launched an educational program of Regional Studies, and since 2005 International Relations. The first Dean of the International Relations Department since 2002 to 2011 was Professor Oleg N. Belenov . For the first ten years of the IRD existence a well-coordinated team of professionals and associates was formed, and the School of International Relations has turned into one of the fastest growing divisions of VSU. Additionally, international links with foreign universities have been developing and strengthening, and teachers and students are becoming active participants in the growing number of international exchange programs. .

From 2002 to 2011, in the structure of the IRD were two chairs - Chair of International Relations and Regional Studies and Chair of International Economics and Foreign Economic Affairs. Since 2000 to 2002 chair of International Relations and Regional Studies headed by Professor Anatoly Lyutykh, since 2002 to 2005 - Doctor of History, Professor Viktor Artemov (1934-2005), since 2005 Doctor of Political Sciences, Professor Alexander A. Slinko. Since 2002, chair of International Economics and Foreign Economic Affairs headed by Ph.D. in Economics, Associate Professor Anatoly I. Lylov. In 2012, the chair of Regional Studies and Economy of Foreign Countries was founded. Chair is headed by prof., Doctor of Economics, Professor Alexander I. Udovichenko.

Over the years the IRD developed schools of German studies and Latin American studies. Moreover, there are schools of Central and Eastern European studies, world politics, regional and international security, the theoretical problems of international relations. Since 2006 in the structure of chair Voronezh branch of the Russian Association of Ibero-American world operates, since 2007 - Centre for East European Studies, since 2007 - German Centre for Policy Studies. At the chair of International Economics and Foreign Economic activity global economy, international economic integration, foreign trade, international marketing, international tourism economy are also studied. In 2010-2011, the IRD changed the curriculum in accordance with federal education standards of the third generation. Since 2010 department implements master program "European Studies" in direction Regional Studies (since 2011 Foreign Regional Studies), since 2011 International Business in direction Management. Since February 2011 faculty is headed by Doctor of Economics, Professor Pavel A. Kanapukhin. Currently, the IRD teaches 727 students. Over the years the Department 742 students has successfully completed. In 2012, there were founded the chair of Regional Studies and the economics of foreign countries, there are also developing new bachelor and master degree programs. In its second decade the IRD entered as one of the most dynamic young divisions of Voronezh State University.

    Chair of Regional studies and Economics of foreign countries became the first chair in the Central Black Soil region, which started educating specialists in the field of regional studies and economics of foreign countries with the knowledge of two foreign languages.

    In terms of economic growth in the emerging markets the program aims to evaluate not only the chances but also the risks of the international economy, which is inseparable from a critical analysis of the economic strategies of individual countries with regard to the political and socio-cultural factors.     International Business

    The program aims to deep training highly skilled professionals who are knowledgeable in the theory and practice of international business transactions with the influence of the global environment, international economic integration and globalization.     European Studies

    This program studies problems and directions for the developments in modern Europe, features and contradictions of the integration processes, regional aspects of international relations and domestic political and economic problems of the European Union. Admission test: interview: Introduction to Regional Studies, Fundamentals of the theory of international relations, The history of international relations and foreign policy of Russia. Education at Master program provided on a contract basis for full-time study (2 years). Targeted audience: bachelors and specialists in the field of international relations, regional studies, economics, and the humanities, social and natural sciences.

    The IRD creates significant opportunities for studying European languages. It is obligatorily to study two European languages. All students study English. German, Spanish or French are the options to choose from. Classes are taught by specialists of the Department of Roman and Germanic Philology at VSU.

    Oriental languages

    The IRD creates significant opportunities for the study of Asian languages. Students can choose to study Arabic, Chinese or Japanese. Classes in Oriental languages are conducted not only by professional teachers, but also by native speakers.

  • Student council has been working on a regular basis at the department since February 2003.

    Its functions are:

    The department has two student clubs, Camelot and The Young Science, which coordinate students research activities.

    The department regularly provides meetings of the video club, where students watch and discuss masterpieces of Russian and foreign movies.

    The department regularly takes part in cultural events organized by the university: the competitions The Freshman and Student's spring, "Miss Charm of the VSU and other events.
